About the Farm Safe Schools Programme

The Farm Safe Schools Programme is on a mission to Engage, Educate and Empower children to be our farm safety ambassadors.

That's why AgriKids, Agri Aware and the IFA want your school to get involved in the 'Farm Safe Schools' programme in 2022
By registering your school or class you have made the first step in helping create a safer future on our farms, for everyone!
Complete all three modules and your school will be accredited a 'Farm-Safe School'.

The Modules

To be accredited as a Farm Safe School you must compete the required number of topics per module and submit evidence of completion. 

Module 1 

 Farm, Farmer & Farmyard

Topics include

  • Farm visit checklist
  • Know they signs
  • Slurry safety*
  • Electricity safety
  • The Countryside Code
  • Climbing & Heights
  • Farmer Health & Wellness
* Not covered in Infants programme

Module 2

Animal Safety & Care

Topics include

  • How animals communicate
  • Bulls
  • Cows & calves
  • Horses
  • Dogs & Cats
  • Zoonoses
  • Animal care & wellbeing

Module 3

Tractor & Machinery Safety

Topics include

  • History of farm machinery*
  • Machines used by farmers
  • Tractor safety rules
  • Know the blind spots
  • PTO safety*
  • Quad bike safety*
  • Tractor safety checklist
* Not covered in junior programmes

The Farm Safe Schools programme is run in partnership with the Irish Farmers Association, AgriKids and Agri Aware .
It is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.
